Leveraging the world’s largest repository of agroforestry science and information, we develop knowledge practices, from farmers’ fields to the global sphere, to ensure food security and environmental sustainability. ICRAF is the only institution that does globally significant agroforestry research in and for all of the developing tropics. Headquartered in Nairobi, Kenya, ICRAF operates six regional programmes in Sub-Saharan Africa, Asia and Latin America and conducts research in more than 30 other countries around the developing world. The primary mandate of the Common Board of Trustees is to provide governance oversight in ensuring ICRAF and CIFOR function to the highest standards to execute their mission.

For a very long time, agricultural research has largely been thought of as the domain of scientific experts, with farmers at the receiving end of the research outputs. Initiated in 2007, this project has become established in four regions, with one country acting as host for each region: West Africa (Mali), South Asia (India), West Asia (Iran) and the Andean region in Latin America (Bolivia/Peru). The Democratising Food and Agricultural Research initiative is not a product of blueprint project planning, - it is an adaptive multilayered approach. Marginalised small scale producers and food providers stand to gain most from the development of more inclusive forms of agricultural research based on the principles of deliberative and direct democracy.

ICARDA is an international organization undertaking research for development. We provide innovative, science-based solutions for countries across the non-tropical dry areas. ICARDA addresses the challenges facing the world’s non-tropical dry areas: rising temperatures, critical water scarcity, diminishing natural resources, and an insecure food and nutritional future under often unstable social conditions. ICARDA's ability to attract and retain a diversity of internationally-talented scientists with a range of specialized skills allows us to mobilize multidisciplinary teams that are able to generate evidence-based solutions grounded on in-depth knowledge of the regions and countries where we work. ICARDA is an international organization that for over four decades undertakes research-for-development to provide innovative, science-based agricultural solutions that improve the livelihoods resilience of rural dryland communities. ICARDA is the only CGIAR research center headquartered in the non-tropical drylands. With our partners we deliver cutting-edge, relevant scientific research that spurs agricultural transformation and improves the livelihoods of millions of women, men, and young people. ICARDA scientists have been working closely alongside the Palestinian NARC.

The CGIAR Research Program on Climate Change, Agriculture and Food Security (CCAFS) marshals the science and expertise of CGIAR and its partners to catalyse positive change for climate-smart agriculture (CSA). CCAFS positions CGIAR - the world's largest agricultural research partnership - in play a major role to bring to scale the practices, technologies and institutions that enable agriculture to meet triple goals of food security, adaptation and mitigation. CCAFS' work is carried out with the kind support of the CGIAR Trust Fund donors, as well as through bilateral funding agreements. No single research institution working alone can address the critically important issues of global climate change, agriculture and food security. The Genetic Innovation Science Group delivers all CGIAR crop breeding and genebank work with the key aim of accelerating adoption and turnover of improved crop varieties among small-scale farmers in low- and medium- income countries.
