Our research predicts that zero emissions short-distance commercial aviation is possible by 2025, by using battery-electric aeroplanes. Battery-powered electric flight is one of several alternatives for emissions reduction in aviation. Although battery-electric flight is only viable on short distances, it is the most efficient variant of all alternatives and guarantees the best utilisation of scarce zero-emission resources. We aim to offer efficient zero-emission flights as soon as viable. Initially, on demand air taxi operations will allow zero-emission air travel between major european hubs and local aerodromes at up to 500Km range. Battery powered zero-emission aviation can service 20% of passenger kilometers (PKM) and once viable this should be implemented as soon as practicable.
