As the work took place at a height of more than 100 m, the existing lining had to be removed in a controlled manner by means of a debris chute. Challenge The task was to build a new state-of-the-art two-chamber melting furnace to replace three melting furnaces that were more than 20 years old. The aim was to increase production capacity by more than 40% to up to 85,000 t of billets per year, make production more sustainable (in line with the latest European CO₂ emission standards), and additionally reduce gas consumption by 30%. As a full-service provider, we were able to offer the customer materials, installation and specialist know-how from a single source. The recycled content in the final product produced on site, which varies by application, can be as high as 75%.
