At Nitricity, we share an inherent dedication to reducing global greenhouse gas emissions. That's why Nitricity is on a mission to electrify the production of nitrogen fertilizer and bring better products closer to the farmers that use them. Nitricity is building the next generation of reactors to produce climate-smart nitrogen fertilizer. Our company was founded from a desire to tackle GHG emissions and create products that are better for fields, farmers, and the environment. Our commitment to this mission means we show up every day ready to work hard and drive change. From initial friendships formed at Stanford University to an award-winning company, Nitricity continues to push forward in our mission to provide growers with local access to the most sustainable climate-smart fertilizer solutions — but we can’t do it alone. Nitrogen fertilizer is vital to support our growing population, but its production and application is responsible for up to 7% of global greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.

N2 Applied

We provide solution for farmers, the food industry and consumers; a solution that simultaneously reduces emissions and improves food production. N2 Applied has developed a technology that enables local production of fertiliser from liquid organic substrates such as slurry or digestate with air and electricity. The reaction stops the loss of ammonia and reduces emissions, making it an efficient and sustainable fertiliser, and creating a more circular farm system. N2’s scalable process enables fertiliser production to be re-distributed to the end-user, the farmer – cutting long and expensive value chains, and reducing the need for chemical fertiliser production based on fossil gas or coal. The solution also provides on-farm emission reductions of methane and ammonia, as well as odour. With the mission of closing the nitrogen cycle – by producing a sustainable fertiliser on farms – we offer an alternative to the Haber-Bosch process. Our technology addresses the twin problems of nitrogen pollution and climate emissions from agriculture. We use plasma technology to recycle and upgrade organic material to a valuable emission-free fertiliser.

NitroCapt is a climate-tech company creating a sustainable cost-efficient green nitrogen fertilizer with zero emission, using air, water and renewable energy as the only input – a true revolution! The idea behind NitroCapt came in 2006 when Gustaf Forsberg read about a solution to reduce nitrogen oxide gases (NOx) in cars. NitroCapt is a sustainable chemical/agricultural technology company headquartered in Uppsala, Sweden. In January, NitroCapt received (pre)-seed investment of EUR 2.8 mn from Swedish tech investors SLU Holding, InnoEnergy, Almi Invest GreenTech and LRF Ventures, Norrsken among others to build first pilot plant (EUR 1 mn of the funding are grants). Nitrocapt was featured as one of top 50 most innovative companies by Norrsken 2023. Nitrocapt was granted €2,1 M (24 MSEK) in the LIFE Climate Action (L’Instrument Financier pour l’Environnement) by the European Commission. Nitrocapt signed a new lease for 1000 square meter headquarter at Green Innovation Park in Ulltuna, Uppsala. Our first location near Garner, Iowa maximizes the abundant renewable energy as well as the strong ammonia market and the developing green hydrogen market. As the need to reduce the world’s carbon footprint has evolved, so has Greenfield Nitrogen. With the new advancements in electrolysis technology, our plant design is a completely green, carbon free hydrogen and ammonia facility which will use 100% renewable energy as well as significantly less water than conventional hydrogen and ammonia production. Our company was founded by a team with deep experience in project development, agriculture, operations, finance and engineering. The plant will be designed utilizing the best available technologies for the green hydrogen production together with the ammonia technology that will be provided by Stamicarbon, which earlier this year launched its new STAMI Green Ammonia technology. The project is the first of a series of green ammonia facilities that Greenfield Nitrogen is interested to strategically develop in the US Corn Belt. The production of around 83,000 tons of ammonia per annum will reduce the region’s dependency on the ammonia currently imported from abroad. Pierroberto Folgiero, Chief Executive Officer of Maire Tecnimont Group commented: “We are very pleased that Greenfield Nitrogen has chosen Maire Tecnimont as their partner of choice for this exciting project.
