Protection International

We are a life-saving international presence in areas of conflict and repression, and a powerful global advocacy network protecting those on the ground. Please note that we are not a funding organization and are generally not able to provide grants or financial support to other organizations. Unfortunately, we are unable to consider unsolicited volunteer applications. Founded in 1981, PBI has many years of experience working alongside human rights defenders, opening and protecting space for peace, conflict transformation and the defence of human rights in 14 countries. PBI provides protection and support to individuals, communities, movements and organizations that defend human rights through protective accompaniment, international observation, advocacy, awareness raising and capacity development. We currently provide protection and support to brave Human Rights defenders who are risking their lives in Colombia, Guatemala, Honduras, Indonesia, Kenya, Mexico and Nicaragua/Costa Rica. Through ProtectDefenders, PBI is able to provide a limited amount of support directly to HRDs in countries where we work.

PBI’s accompaniment is the expression of international concerns for the security and wellbeing of at-risk human rights defenders. A central part of PBI’s work is the ongoing personal contact with human rights defenders and communities, which provides crucial moral support and a sense of human solidarity.

PBI Ireland, founded in 2014, is part of a community of country groups worldwide who work to strengthen and support the protection of human rights defenders that we offer in our field projects.

We are attentive to the needs of our local partners and promptly respond to requests for assistance. We are flexible and tailor our approach to the challenges that individual partners face and quickly adapt to changes in the environment in which we and partners operate. We are driven by a strong commitment to improve respect for human rights, empower civil society actors and make a real difference in the lives of people in our target countries. Aligned with our mission, we empower partner groups to conduct their work locally, even in highly challenging conditions, and assist them in raising human rights concerns on the international stage. We develop and implement joint projects with local civil society partners, carry out joint activities with them on agreed priority issues, and provide tailored assistance and capacity building depending on their needs. International Partnership for Human Rights (IPHR) is an independent, non-governmental organisation founded in Brussels in 2008. In accordance with its mission, IPHR supports local civil society partners who operate in repressive environments and cooperates with them on promoting human rights, justice and the rule of law. IPHR is committed to empowering local civil society actors who promote human rights, justice and the rule of law in repressive environments.

Prepared International (PPI) is an expert organisation that was founded by experienced international disaster experts during the response to the 2015 Nepal Earthquake.
