TUM Hyperloop

We are driven by the conviction that every technical innovation needs social acceptance and sustainable business models to improve the lives of many people. We are a student initiative founded in 2020 with the vision to do pioneering work for sustainable mobility systems. For that, we develop passenger capsules that float through partially evacuated tubes at nearly the speed of sound. We are always looking for skilled and motivated team members. Proposed by Tesla and SpaceX founder Elon Musk in 2013, the Hyperloop is a concept in which passenger capsules (pods) float almost silently at speeds close to the speed of sound through a tube at about one-thousandth of atmospheric pressure. With greenhouse gas emissions ten times lower than those of an airplane, the Hyperloop can help in addressing climate change. Another advantage of the very low friction in the tube is the high energy efficiency of the Hyperloop system. The Hyperloop, sometimes referred to as the fifth mode of transport, has the potential to shift mobility towards a sustainable and connected future.

We are aiming to refurbish the 31.5 km MagLev Test facility in Lathen, Germany, to become a large-scale European Hyperloop Test Facility. We are determined to bring Hyperloop researchers and companies in Europe together and advance the technology to develop a European standard. The Institute of Hyperloop Technology (IHT) was founded 2021 at the University of Applied Sciences Emden/Leer. Thomas Schüning started Hyperloop as the faculty advisor for the team “HyperPodX” supporting the team with technical insights in all three competitions. This test track is dedicated to investigate and evaluate a large variety of logistic Hyperloop applications and scenarios. Want to know more about what we are working on? The Hyperloop is a rail-bound mode of transport that operates magnetically levitating vehicles running at sonic speed within a low-pressure tube. This concept is the key to long-distance sustainable transport and a major contributor to achieve the GHG reduction target set by the EC for 2030 and 2050.

We are an international company operating in four different countries with a high motivation to bring the change that the transportation sector needs and with the knowledge and experience needed to make it happen. We are the first hyperloop company in Africa and we are working to bring cutting-edge technologies to life in order to increase the well-being in today’s society. Our mission is to create a new transportation method that reduces the emissions in this sector to a minimum while achieving a speed never seen before in ground transportation to eliminate the time limitations that today’s transportation imposes. We are developing our own Hyperloop system while creating other technologies that can help our community and spread scientific knowledge to the general public. In STMLoop, we’re working to build the first Hyperloop Research Center in Africa to develop this technology and bring it to life. Hyperloop is a new transportation system that we are currently developing.
