Autofrettage is a cold-working process used to increase the fatigue strength of components that are subjected to high levels of pressure and strain. It involves the application of a high internal pressure to a component, which causes plastic deformation in the material, resulting in a residual compressive stress at the inner surface of the component. This compressive stress helps to reduce the stress concentration regions within the component, increasing the fatigue strength and the overall life of the component.

Testing technology is the core expertise of Poppe & Potthoff Maschinenbau GmbH. We offer standardized and custom built pressure test benches for R&D and line production. Our range of products include Burst Test Benches, Leak Test Benches, Pressure Cycle Test Stands, Dynamic Burst Test Rigs, Autofrettage Equipment and more. Poppe & Potthoff delivers state of the art pressure test benches up to 15.000 bar for some special applications. However, typical solutions in low pressure areas up to 50 bar are plastic components or home appliance parts, while high pressure tests might be utilized for common rail systems. Our test benches have the ability to temper test media such as water or specific oils and can be ordered with Climate Chambers to simulate environmental impact on a test part.
