Ceimici Novel has enabled biodiesel producers to complete the manufacturing ‘magic circle’ by providing profitable solutions for the utilisation of glycerol. Donal invented Smart Catalyst to streamline biodiesel production and concluded that converting glycerol to glycidol was the way forward. This is the root cause of all biodiesel production issues. Sodium methylate aids the production of biodiesel by accelerating the transesterification reaction. While refined oil is the easiest to process it is only economic for those involved in seed crushing. Added to this, there is a need to have the treated waste oil with low moisture content. This is a time-consuming exercise often ignored by processors leading to low yield, secondary processing and major difficulties in reaching specification in the first pass. By eradicating these steps towards FFA reduction and streamlining the biodiesel production process using Smart Cat™ technology, Ceimici Novel has enabled processors to reduce costs significantly.

Biodiesel refers to a renewable, biodegradable fuel derived from biological sources such as vegetable oils, animal fats, or recycled restaurant greases, designed for use in diesel engines. Chemically, it consists of long-chain alkyl (methyl, ethyl, or propyl) esters produced through a process known as transesterification, wherein oils or fats are reacted with an alcohol (usually methanol or ethanol) in the presence of a catalyst to form fatty acid esters and glycerol. This reaction not only reduces the viscosity of the oil but also improves combustion properties, making it a viable substitute or blend for conventional petroleum diesel. The significance of biodiesel within the energy sector lies in its potential to reduce dependence on fossil fuels, thereby contributing to energy security while offering a lower carbon footprint. Its adoption and utilization are instrumental in mitigating climate change impacts, as biodiesel combustion emits significantly fewer pollutants such as particulates, carbon monoxide, sulfur oxides, and unburned hydrocarbons. Furthermore, the lifecycle of biodiesel production and use fosters a circular economy approach, especially when sourced from waste fats and oils, enhancing sustainability and resource efficiency. By offering a cleaner-burning alternative to petroleum diesel, biodiesel plays a pivotal role in the transition towards more sustainable transportation and energy systems, aligning with global efforts to address environmental challenges and promote renewable energy sources.
1. Environmental Benefits:
Biodiesel produces significantly lower emissions of carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide, sulfur dioxide, and particulate matter compared to conventional diesel fuels. This reduction in harmful emissions contributes to cleaner air and a healthier environment.
2. Renewable Resource:
Biodiesel is made from vegetable oils, animal fats, or recycled restaurant greases. These sources are renewable, in contrast to fossil fuels, which are finite. The ability to produce biodiesel from a variety of feedstocks also enhances energy security by diversifying fuel sources.
3. Biodegradability:
Biodiesel is far more biodegradable than traditional diesel fuel. In case of spills or leaks, biodiesel breaks down more quickly and poses less of a risk to the environment, making it a safer alternative in sensitive areas.
4. Engine Longevity:
Biodiesel has natural lubricating properties that can reduce wear and tear on engine components. This can extend engine life and reduce maintenance costs over time, offering a practical advantage for vehicle and machinery operators.
5. Energy Balance:
The production and use of biodiesel result in a positive energy balance, meaning it generates more energy as a fuel than the energy required to produce it. This efficiency contributes to its sustainability and makes it an attractive option for reducing overall carbon footprints.
While evaluating the different suppliers make sure to check the following criteria:
1. Quality and Specifications of the Biodiesel
