Enhanced Geothermal Systems (EGS) are a type of geothermal energy technology that uses hydraulic fracturing and other methods to create or expand permeable pathways within the Earth's subsurface. This enables hot water and steam to be produced from geothermal energy sources that would otherwise not be able to be used. EGS technology has the potential to substantially increase the amount of geothermal energy available for use, and has the potential to reduce the amount of energy required for geothermal electricity production.
