An Exploding Foil Initiator (EFI) is a device used to set off explosive processes such as detonating an explosive charge. It consists of a thin metallic foil and an explosive material, which when brought into contact with each other and initiated by an electric spark, create a high-pressure shock wave that detonates an explosive device. The EFI is often used in military, aerospace and civilian applications such as detonating ordnance, creating shock waves for scientific experiments, or initiating industrial processes.
