Magnetic Particle Testing (MPT) is a non-destructive testing method used to detect surface and subsurface defects in ferromagnetic materials such as iron, nickel, and cobalt. It involves the application of magnetic fields to the material being tested and the introduction of magnetic particles, either dry or suspended in a liquid, to the surface. When the magnetic particles come in contact with a defect, they become concentrated at the defect location, creating a visible signal. This signal can be used to detect and assess the size, shape, and orientation of the defect.
