The development of the operational concept is considered on three different time ranges. As a long-term strategy, AEON elaborates an investment model to help airports or airlines evaluate their interest in our solution. Further, on a operations strategic phase, the Consortium considers different techniques to use on each aircraft and to reduce fuel consumption. Finally, on a operations tactical phase, AEON considers real-time evaluations of environmental indicators to support decision-making tool to be implemented. The project will work closely with airports, airlines and manufacturers on developing the concept of operations in order to ensure that the approach proposed can be integrated into already existing airport collaborative decision-making tools.

The Artificial Intelligence Lab, founded in 1983 by Prof. Luc Steels, is the first AI lab on the European mainland. Bernard Manderick. During its history of more than three decades, the VUB AI Lab has been following two main routes towards the understanding of intelligence: both the symbolic route (classical AI) as the dynamics route (complex systems science). Since its foundation, more than 50 people have received a PhD degree at the Artificial Intelligence Lab, of which 18 in the past 5 years only. The total amount of publications sums up to more than 850 publications which are cited more than 24.000 times, 8500 times in the last 5 years.

A Multi-Agent System (MAS) is a computerized system composed of multiple autonomous agents that interact with each other in order to achieve a common goal. Each agent is an autonomous entity that has its own set of capabilities and is capable of making decisions independently from other agents. An MAS is an environment in which agents can interact and collaborate with each other in order to solve complex problems or complete tasks that are too difficult for an individual agent to complete alone. Examples of MAS include distributed artificial intelligence, distributed robotics, and networked systems.
