2015

Our in-package optical I/O solution moves data from chip to chip using light instead of electricity transmitted through copper wires. Breaking through the performance, power, and distance limitations of copper interconnect. Ayar Labs in-package optical I/O was designed to solve the critical performance bottlenecks in data-intensive computing systems. By moving data between computer chips using light instead of electricity, systems achieve 4 Tbps bi-directional bandwidth, power efficiency of less than 5pJ/b (10 Watts), latency of 5ns per chiplet + TOF, and reach from millimeters to kilometers. Ayar Labs is the first to deliver an in-package optical I/O solution that combines optical I/O chiplets and multi-wavelength light sources to replace traditional electrical I/O.

„Optical Computing“

Optical computing is a type of computing that uses light waves to process data. This form of computing utilizes the fact that light can travel at very high speeds and is both more efficient and faster than traditional electronic computing. Optical computing seeks to replace electronic components such as transistors and logic gates with optical components, such as lenses and mirrors, to perform operations and calculations. In optical computing, data is transmitted using light pulses instead of electrical signals, allowing for more rapid and secure data transfer. Optical computing has the potential to revolutionize computing, as it can offer significant improvements in energy efficiency and speed.
