Photoelectron Spectroscopy (PES) is an analytical technique used to study the electronic structure of molecules and solids. It is based on the photoelectric effect, in which photons with energies greater than the binding energy of electrons in a material are absorbed and the ejected electrons are collected and measured. The kinetic energies of the electrons can be used to identify the binding energy of the electrons in the material and thus the electronic structure of the material can be determined. PES is used to study a wide range of materials, from biological molecules to semiconductors and metals.
