Description

A study reported the creation of a new cell line, MBSa1, derived from a high-grade, metastatic neurofibrosarcoma in a 12-year-old neutered male German Shepherd Dog using a punch biopsy. The cell line was maintained in tissue culture for at least 20 passages over seven months. To assess tumorigenicity, MBSa1 cells were injected into athymic mice, resulting in tumor growth in nine out of ten mice within eight weeks. This demonstrates that MBSa1 is immortalized and capable of forming solid tumors, making it a valuable tool for further research into canine soft tissue sarcoma. PBMCs are used in antibody discovery due to their role in the immune response. Antibody-secreting cells (ASCs), a type of PBMC, are an excellent source of high-affinity antibodies with therapeutic potential. Millions of PBMCs can be isolated and screened to identify antigen-specific ASCs that secrete antibodies with desirable properties. One method involves microfluidic encapsulation of single ASCs into an antibody capture hydrogel, followed by antigen bait sorting using flow cytometry, enabling the rapid discovery of monoclonal antibodies.
