Description

This study investigated folate and homocysteine levels in cats with oral squamous cell carcinoma (SCC), a cancer with a poor prognosis. Researchers compared plasma folate and homocysteine concentrations in cats with oral SCC (n=13) to those in cats with other tumors (n=25), non-cancerous oral diseases (n=6), and healthy cats (n=24). The results indicated that the median plasma folate and homocysteine concentrations did not significantly differ between the oral SCC group and the other groups. The study suggests that the underlying causes of oral SCC in cats may differ from those in humans, where folate and homocysteine imbalances are linked to head and neck SCC, although the authors suggest further evaluation with a larger sample size may identify a difference between groups. PBMCs are used in antibody discovery due to their role in the immune response. Millions of PBMCs can be isolated and screened to identify antigen-specific ASCs that secrete antibodies with desirable properties. One method involves microfluidic encapsulation of single ASCs into an antibody capture hydrogel, followed by antigen bait sorting using flow cytometry, enabling the rapid discovery of monoclonal antibodies. These antibodies can then be further characterized for their binding affinity and neutralizing capacity, making PBMCs a valuable resource for developing antibody-based drugs and studying immune responses.
