The new program offers upstream and midstream oil and gas companies an all-in-one methane monitoring solution comprising system design, implementation, monitoring, and maintenance of named toxic gas detection sensors, personal wearable gas and GPS monitors, and real-time remote communications hubs. Unlike aerial surveys that spot leaks at one point in time or ground-based continuous emissions monitoring systems that image plumes without equipment identification, Shepherd’s named point sensors on and around surface equipment pinpoint leaks and issue real-time alarms. Emission readings are recorded, monitored, and displayed via smartphones, PCs, or remote operating centers by equipment type and location to ensure office staff and field crews know exactly where leaks are occurring and the rate of emissions over time. Reducing methane (CH4) emissions is a critical objective for oil and gas companies because methane is believed to have 80 times the warming impact of carbon dioxide over the first 20 years of being emitted into the atmosphere.
