Solanyl Biopolymers Home | Company | About Solanyl | Solanyl Applications | Manufacturers | Biodegradability | Resources | Contact. Solanyl biodegradable plastic is a bio-based, renewable substitute for petroleum-based plastic resins. A unique manufacturing process is used to transform the leftover starch into biopolymers. These biodegradable and compostable bioplastic resins can then be molded into new and innovative products. This is especially useful for short life, disposable products such as packaging, plant pots or disposable cutlery, however under various conditions, products made from Solanyl BP can be designed to last many months or years, especially in dry applications. The resin is then converted into a commercial product by a plastic processor using methods such as injection molding and thermoforming. Products made from Solanyl bioplastics can be composted at the end of the product’s life cycle.

A complete suite of solutions to develop and commercialise sustainable products, whether transforming existing products or developing new ones. We offer a broad range of PLA, PHA, PBS and PBAT grades which can be used in numerous applications. Their adoption has been increasing at an impressive rate as the production capacity of biodegradable polymers has grown from c. This is attributed to enhancements to their properties and reduction in production costs. With bioplastics making up less than 1% of the total global plastics production, their growth potential is far from being realised, and with that, the potential to make an impact: far beyond net-zero. Bioplastics are carbon neutral polymers, lowering the emission of greenhouse gasses over their lifecycle.
