Charlie Bavington established OCEANIUM due to shared passion to enable and scale the emerging seaweed industry in the Western hemisphere. OCEANIUM pioneers R&D and engineering techniques in partnership with key stakeholders across our entire value chain – from farmed seaweed suppliers to equipment suppliers to customers – to ensure the high-quality products and optimal production methods. Our vision is to become the world’s leading processor of sustainably farmed seaweed to enable the industry and continue to create innovative seaweed ingredients to generate positive environmental, economic, and social impact, ensuring food security and livelihoods for future generations, and contributing to ocean health. OCEANIUM is fortunate to have a wonderful set of supporters who are committed to our mission of enabling the seaweed farming industry through high-quality ingredients and green processing. We are also grateful to the European Commission – CINEA, Innovate UK and Scottish Enterprise for ongoing support to conduct industry-defining seaweed R&D and scale-up. We develop and make innovative, functional seaweed-based ingredients for food, wellness and materials to benefit people and ocean health, providing our commercial partners with the sustainable ingredients to meet consumer demand and sustainability targets. OCEANIUM’s second annual Impact Report has now been published! They lead a team committed to maximising the economic and compositional value of seaweed by producing novel and versatile ingredients for food, health, skincare and materials that have multiple applications and leave as little waste behind as possible.
