Strip Mining

What is Strip Mining?

Strip mining is a type of surface mining which involves the removal of a thin layer of material (such as soil or rock) from the surface of an area in order to access the minerals or other resources beneath it. This type of mining is typically used in areas where the terrain is relatively flat and the resources are close to the surface. This method of mining is also known as open-cast mining and can cause a great deal of damage to the environment as trees and other vegetation are removed, and large amounts of soil and rock are displaced.
