SBR Red Rubber - Custom Gaskets: Gasketing products | Extruded plastic profiles | EDM & CNC Machining | Shim Production
Styrene Butadiene Rubber (SBR) is synthetic, low-cost red rubber material comprised of styrene and butadiene monomers. It is made as a replacement for natural rubber. The red rubber gasket material is specially designed to be quick-sealing, non-hardening, and heat-resistant for use in various flanged applications. Our SBR red rubber is available in shore “A” hardness of 60 up to 80 durometer, with a temperature range of -20 to +120°F (-28 to 48°C). It has a red, smooth plate finish and is one of our most popular gasket materials. Like many other synthetic rubbers, SBR has enhanced properties that gives better physical, wear, water heat-aging, and abrasion resistance, making it an economical choice for gasket material. SBR is durable with excellent impact strength, great resilience, and high tensile strength to suit extremely demanding applications. It is also flexible enough to conform to uneven flange surfaces. SBR can resist most weak and moderate organic acids, hot or cold water, alcohol, ketones (acetone), non-mineral oil based brake fluid, Silicone Oil, glycol and aldehydes. However, this material has poor resistance to ozone, sunlight, strong solvents, most hydrocarbons, mineral oil and petroleum-based fluids and its fatigue resistance and low temperature properties remain inferior to natural rubber.

Styrene Butadiene Rubber, commonly known as SBR, is a synthetic rubber made from the polymerization of styrene and butadiene. This material exhibits excellent abrasion resistance and aging stability, making it ideal for a variety of applications, particularly in the automotive and tire industries. SBR's properties can be enhanced through various formulations, allowing it to be tailored for specific uses such as in footwear, conveyor belts, and adhesives. Its versatility and cost-effectiveness contribute to its widespread adoption across different sectors.
Styrene Butadiene Rubber (SBR) is widely utilized in various industries due to its excellent properties. One prominent application is in the automotive sector, where it is used for manufacturing tires. The rubber's durability and resistance to wear make it ideal for tire production, enhancing performance and safety. Another significant use is in the production of adhesives, sealants, and coatings. SBR's adhesive qualities provide strong bonding capabilities, making it suitable for construction and industrial applications. Additionally, it is employed in the manufacture of footwear, conveyor belts, and various molded products, showcasing its versatility across different sectors.
Styrene Butadiene Rubber (SBR) is primarily manufactured through two methods: emulsion and solution polymerization. In the emulsion process, styrene and butadiene monomers are mixed with water, surfactants, and initiators. This mixture undergoes polymerization to form latex, which is then coagulated to produce solid rubber. In solution polymerization, the monomers are dissolved in a hydrocarbon solvent, allowing for better control over the polymer's molecular weight and structure. This method typically results in a more uniform polymer, enhancing the rubber's properties. Both processes yield SBR with varying characteristics, making it suitable for diverse applications in the automotive and industrial sectors.
1. Excellent Wear Resistance
Styrene Butadiene Rubber (SBR) showcases remarkable wear resistance, making it ideal for applications that require durability. This characteristic is particularly beneficial in tire manufacturing, where prolonged life and performance are crucial.
2. Cost-Effectiveness
Utilizing SBR is economically advantageous due to its lower production costs compared to natural rubber. This affordability allows manufacturers to produce high-quality rubber products without significantly impacting the budget.
3. Versatile Applications
SBR can be used in a wide range of applications, including automotive parts, footwear, and industrial products. Its adaptability makes it a preferred choice for various industries seeking reliable rubber solutions.
4. Good Aging Stability
SBR exhibits excellent aging properties, ensuring that products maintain their performance and integrity over time. This stability is essential for items exposed to environmental factors, prolonging their lifespan.
5. Enhanced Processability
The ease of processing SBR allows manufacturers to create complex shapes and designs without compromising quality. This feature streamlines production processes and improves overall efficiency.
The primary industries that utilize Styrene Butadiene Rubber (SBR) include the automotive sector, where it is widely used in tire manufacturing due to its excellent abrasion resistance and durability. Additionally, the footwear industry benefits from SBR for its flexibility and comfort, making it suitable for the production of shoe soles. Furthermore, the construction industry employs Styrene Butadiene Rubber in adhesives and sealants, capitalizing on its strong bonding properties. The manufacturing of various consumer goods, such as rubber bands and toys, also relies on SBR for its versatility and performance characteristics.
